Report for Triad Unit Meeting June 13, 2009

Jaci KrauseFirst of all, we had a great time learning ethics from Laura Allen and the perspective of a BMBT board member.  Down to earth, common sense and really interesting things we should all be doing in our practice.

Discussion of Dual Relationships, what to do about chronic no show clients as well as inappropriate behavior, what constitutes that behavior as well.

Aromatherapy: Indications and Contraindications went beyond do this and do not do that, into why and what reasons you would or would not use certain essential oils.  Discussion about SCENTs as opposed to essential oils, what to look for in price, is Rose cheap?  If it is, it is not an essential oil but probably a chemically reproduced scent and to avoid it.

The information passed on to us was a great base for an Aromatherapy class for treatment.  Most of the students agreed they would love to delve further into Aromatherapy, so I will look for an excellent instructor for that reason for 2010.

We had students from out of our Unit.  One came from Asheville, which is

132 miles away, another from Elkin which is close to that.  I expained to all students that whether they are members of AMTA or not, they are welcomed at any unit meeting in North Carolina as well as out of state.

Laura Allen is a very relaxed, well informed instructor and I heartily recomend her to any and all units.

Jaci Krause, Triad Unit Coordinator.

Pretty cool post. I just came by your site and wanted to say
that I’ve really enjoyed browsing your posts. Any way
I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

  • I think i’ve seen this somewhere before…but it’s not bad at all

I will post upcoming classes for our unit as time gets closer. We will be having a self help class by Marty Kestin on October 3, 2009. It promises to be worthwhile and very helpful to those of us who do so much body work.

  • Thank you for the kind words, Jaci. I always enjoy coming to your Unit Meetings…great students, and I LOVE getting to preach in the church!

  • Hi. I like the way you write. Will you post some more articles?

Laura, you can come “preach” in our church whenever you want! You tell me what and when you want to teach, I will make it happen! You are definately one of the favorite teachers we have for our unit classes.
I look forward to seeing you at the Fall Convention in Clemmons. It promises to be a good one.

  • Hi,

I am new to the Triad Unit. I have come from FL via TX and will probably be here for only a year also. I joined AMTA in school and actually organized the Pensacola, FL Unit and was it’s initial Chair. I was the Editor of the Florida Journal Newsletter, the Chapter webmaster, historian and 2007 AMTA Florida Chapter President’s Award Winner.

Then I started a project to bring more attention to massage and it is working. It is called the World Massage Festival & Massage Therapy Hall of Fame. Laura Allen, Gloria Coppola, Felicia Brown, Rick Rosen, Claire Marie Miller, Bob King, Judith Delany, Paul St. John, Brita Ostrom and James Waskaski are just a small group of teachers and Hall of Fame that will be there.

I will be at the AMTA NC Chapter Convention August 15 and hope you will stop by and say “hi”.
